The leather tanning industry in the 18th century. Grasse in the south of France flourished as a famous perfume producing region, as leather products were scented to hide the distinctive smell of leather. This sophisticated unisex fragrance with a leathery tone was inspired by the leather tanners of the region.

In the 18th century, the tannery industry had rapidly developed. Glasse in southern France flourished as a well-known source of perfume because they perfumed leather products to mask the peculiar smell. Our Tanner is leathery, sophisticated and unisex scent inspired by the local tanner in those days.

"Enjoying fragrance in your life" APOTHEKE FRAGRANCE is a fragrance brand that handcrafts all processes from product preparation, production, and packaging at its own factory in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture. The brand name APOTHEKE means "a place that prepares fragrances and medicinal herbs" or "a dispensing pharmacy" in German. Like a "pharmacy," we are deeply rooted in our customers' lives and offer suggestions for "how to enjoy fragrance as a part of your life."

About 10 years ago, when the brand was launched, founder Keita Sugasawa came across many perfume oil and incense wood stores in countries he traveled to, and was deeply inspired and impressed by them, which are rarely seen in Japan. After working at a fragrance company to learn about fragrance from scratch, in 2011 he set up an atelier in his hometown of Chiba Prefecture and started a handmade room fragrance brand.

We prefer the simple quality and analog texture that comes from careful effort, and do not aim for mass production using machines or outsourcing.

For this reason, they value not only mixing and producing the fragrances, but also hand-making everything from stamping the labels to packaging the products. Through trial and error, they have created over 100 different scents. And the product lineup, which started with candles, now includes a wide range of products, including room sprays and incense.
